Hawaiian Waldorf School

features buzz-ED™ Pilot Program

Scientists, educators, and agriculturists CAN’T agree on why our world is suffering from an insect apocalypse, but everyone CAN agree that it is due to human activities. We’re making choices every day that hurt the bees!

The only way to save the planet is to change the way we’re training the decision makers of the future.

Rudolf Steiner, a scientist, philosopher & social innovator, launched the first Waldorf school on September 7, 1919, in Stuttgart, Germany, during the wake of the first World War. He recognized that the only way to avoid repeating such a tragic and horrible fate was to foster a different type of education. It needed to be one that focused on teaching free-thinking and a more open way of making decisions.

In 1923, the book “Bees” was published about Steiner’s observations.

This forward-thinking, world conscious text predicted that, in 80 to 100 years, honeybee populations would collapse.

Sadly, his prediction has come true! A condition called Colony Collapse Disorder has affected bees all over the globe. Our fuzzy friends are disappearing in mass numbers from their hives with no clear explanation.

His philosophy was to guide future generations to be freer thinkers, and it has blossomed into a global network of Waldorf Schools. Waldorf education is now the fastest-growing, non-sectarian private school movement in the world with schools in over 90 countries. These schools tend to be popular among the decision-makers and influential artists of our time. Why? Because, it teaches them HOW to think - not simply memorizing other people’s thoughts and reciting them properly during exams.

Lei Day at Haleakalā Waldorf School in Maui, Hawaii

In 1972, the Haleakalā Waldorf School was formed in Maui, Hawaii. Built on the historic grounds of the original Kula public school (founded in 1893), Haleakalā Waldorf School brought life back to the desolate and almost completely overgrown campus. Now, restored to a beautiful and inviting arena for advanced education, even for those too young to spell, Steiner’s vision reaches to the magical island of Maui.

Waldorf school’s advanced approach and enlightened philosophy on how to change the world make it the perfect place to host the buzz-ED Biodynamic & Ethical Beekeeping Pilot Program.

As this curriculum is developed it will be made available to schools around the globe. It's urgent that we reach every child regardless of their income.

The buzz-ED curriculum also includes at least one advanced Honeycomb Castle™ beehive, a bee garden design, & all the equipment needed to allow the buzz-ED curriculum to be taught in the approved locations.

Features of the advanced buzz-ED Honeycomb Castle™ beehive:

>Superior topbar design

>Improved ventilation - mimicking a natural habitat

>No prefabricated foundations - the bees are allowed to make a real wax comb!

Kids and bees make a great team! As most children are not in school during harvest season, this allows for a healthier mid-season mini-harvest without disturbing the structure.

The 3 viewing windows around the Honeycomb Castle™ minimize disrupting those busy bees, but also allows curious kiddos to observe all the hard work that goes into honey production.

Perhaps one of its best features, each beehive also includes a BUZZcoin Hive Mind Device™. This is a state of the art, mini brain that gathers data and allows for remote monitoring. These BUZZcoin devices link hives across the world and facilitate our Sister Hives™ program which focuses on inter-school activities

There isn't time to waste in the fight against the demise of the insect kingdom. Please donate today and bee a part of the solution!

Join us in preparing the next generation of beekeepers! With buzz-ED, children are taught a better of caring for Earth’s other inhabitants.
